Improv Competition

Embody typically hosts an improv competition each season. Below is the information from last season – we will update once we receive the information for this year.

  • 2 divisions with a top 3 awarded in each age group | 12 and under & 13 and up
  • Music randomly selected for each dancer, however, each dancer is allowed to choose what style they’d like to improv
  • 60 seconds to dance with a 5 second countdown
  • Dancers receive advisors feedback and scores

The fee prior to November 23rd is $75/dancer and during the convention weekend is $99/dancer.

If interested please @ Ms. Torie and the ASI Dance Administrator in a DM with your preferred improv style and we will enter them for you. Improv spots will be granted by Embody in order of emails received. So if your dancer would like to participate we strongly recommend confirming with us as soon as possible to ensure a spot is available for them

 Observer Bands

For dancers ages 5-6, Embody includes observer bands in your registration! You do not need to pay any additional fees for your observer bands. ASI requires all dancers ages 5-7 to have a parent present with them for the convention and competition. Please purchase a band either through embody the day of convention or through ASI by messaging our admin team.

For all other dancers ages 8+, observer bands may be purchased at additional cost. If you are interested in purchasing one please let Ms. Torie and the ASI Administrator know via slack in either a DM as soon as possible. You may join your dancer for lunch break and the competition portion of the weekend, however access into the convention classrooms are not possible without an observer band.

What Is The Closing Show/Ceremony?

The  closing show is the final event of the weekend – dancers are required to be present for. Parents are encouraged to attend the ceremony as Embody will be handing out scholarships and awards.

Routines that specifically caught the judges eye will be invited to re-perform in the closing show on Sunday! Parents please be prepared to complete hair and make-up on Sunday and to bring any required costumes again on Sunday. Performing routines will be announced at Awards on Saturday Night

Drop Off and Pick Up For Convention

Dancers must be checked in and checked out with Ms. Torie upon arrival and before leaving. We do not leave the venue until every dancer is safe with their parent, guardian, or designated dance parent if carpooling. Please note that check out on Sunday is prior to closing ceremony, so you will not need to check out again following the ceremony.

The Check In and Check Out location will be next to the stairs and storage area on the first floor across from the Bayshore Foyer – same location as last season! See map below for directions

Juniors, Teens, and Seniors

In addition to the necessities such as water and snacks, please remember to bring a notebook and pen to your mindset seminars.

Dancers Chosen for the Class Stand Out Performance (more on this below!)

Dancers will need to wear “Embody” Merch that can be purchased at their merchandise booth. If this presents as a financial burden that will prevent your dancer from being able to participate, please speak with me privately!

COMPETITION ENTRY PASS – IMPORTANT!!

The competition is free to view but for the safety of all dancers, Embody is requiring all individuals
that do not have a dancer band or observer band to present a digital pass to our door monitor upon
each entry. We recommend making this pass your screen saver for the weekend for ease of access, as you will need o present it each time you enter the competition auditorium

What Is The Class Standout Performance?

One Saturday class combo from the Junior Room and one from the Teen/Senior room will be presented during the
closing show on Sunday. The faculty member from the designated class will select dancers to
perform the combo. Class standouts are not required to perform and are welcome to opt out. To
accept the invitation, dancers must attend the Sunday rehearsal.

What Is The Parent/Guardian Mindset Seminar?

Dance mindset coach, Ashley Mowrey, will guide you through ways to support your dancer before,
during, and after competition weekends. she’ll explore healthy boundaries and how they can help
you and your dancer. As a former competitive dancer and now a parent herself, Ashley understands
the ups and downs you navigate throughout competition weekend and is here to help. This seminar
is engaging, reflective, and interactive-so grab something to write with and join us!
